The Catholic Committee on Scouting met to finalize logistics for the "Pitching for Priests" event and coordinate upcoming religious emblem classes and retreats.
The committee confirmed the operational plan for the event this Friday. Tonya Gast will lead the presence at the gate, serving as the primary contact point.
Identification: Tonya will be stationed inside Gate A with five flags on poles to ensure visibility.
Materials: Two QR code sheets (one for Kansas, one for Missouri) will be displayed in page protectors. David plans to add state outlines to the documents before printing on Friday. A clear bag of patches will also be available.
On-Field Protocol: Flag bearers must be at the third base side gate by 6:15 PM. Participants are required to wear Class A uniforms. The American flag will be held straight up, while all other flags will tilt down during the ceremony.
Coordination: Nick Red will serve as the announcer, and Jim O'Laughlin (President of Catholic Radio) will also be in the third base area.
Joe Wahlberg submitted updated one-page flyers for the Pius XII and Adult Ad Altare Dei (AAD) classes.
Website Updates: The new flyers have been uploaded to the website, replacing the older versions.
Distribution: David will print copies for the upcoming Roundtables. While David cannot attend the August 6th Roundtable due to a conflicting scouting event, he will coordinate with others to ensure the flyers are available for the Kaw, Iron Horse and Soaring Eagle districts.
Feedback: A recent training session received a perfect five-out-of-five rating from a participant (Jane), who noted the need for earlier event advertising.
Kickoff Mass: Scheduled for Sunday, August 30th, featuring a family barbecue. Stephanie, Laura, and Jane are managing the push for advertising. Tonya will include information about the mass in her final "Pitching for Priests" email to consolidate communications.
AHG Retreat: Jane is planning a retreat at Prairie Star. Due to staffing limitations at the venue, the event may be restricted to American Heritage Girls (AHG) rather than a joint scouting retreat. The committee agreed to let Jane lead the process while providing resources from previous years.
Holy Smokes was first started at Savior Pastoral Center under the vision of the committee drawing together Catholic Scouting families. We held Holy Smokes at Prairie Star Ranch for several years and put it on hold for a moment. We would love to bring it back and/or re-create it in the next version of what God has planned for us.
We have a fantastic history of putting on an annual retreat for BSA and AHG Youth that started over 15 years ago. We put the retreat on hold for a few years, but are excited to bring it back with newly engaged leaders taking the reins. Check back soon for updates! In the meantime, check out the great time we have had at Prairie Star Ranch growing as Christian Leaders.
